The car is a 2005 Ford Focus, 1.6 petrol which I purchased last December. In the last two weeks a warning message saying Engine Systems Fault and reduced acceleration comes on sometimes when I'm driving. In addition to the warning message all the warning lights will come on like the ABS, Fuel, seat belt and battery light.

the AA guy found the following two codes P0234 & P02E09. Looking at those codes: P02E9 - Diesel Intake Air Flow Position Sensor Circuit High. This seems to usually relate to a flap or valve on the Intake side of the engine. The turbo actuator (VNT probably, or wastegate) is on the exhaust side of the engine.

My mrs has a 57 plate Focus 1.6 tdci and on the 2nd jan this year the engine systems fault light came on with the reduced acceleration sign also.
